The Center for the Study of Coastal Dynamics is located in the city of Portici, in the Gulf of Naples area.
Main activities of the Center are the numerical and physical simulation of coastal dynamics. Numerical models are both commercial and ad-hoc implemented. In collaboration with the University of Naples, the Center has equipped a 36 x 18 x 1.2 -meter basin, and a 40 x 2 x 1.5 - meter flume.
Several sites have been surveyed, mainly in the Gulf of Naples and in the Gulf of Salerno.
Results of the simulations and of the surveys are available via Internet in the Sistema di Gestione delle Aree Costiere (SiGeAC - Coastal Areas Management System). SiGeAC also stores topographic maps, aerial photos and coastal data time series.
The Center can give a valuable support to all institutions dealing with coastal zone management, by providing erosion risk assessments and shoreline evolution scenarios.
